How to Read a Supplement Label Before You Buy

The label is the most important source of product-specific information. Reading it carefully helps you compare products and use them responsibly.

Check the product identity

Confirm the product name, net quantity or capsule count, batch details, manufacturing and expiry information, and the integrity of the seal.

Read ingredients and serving directions

Look at the full ingredient list, stated quantities, allergens or dietary markers, directions and the maximum stated use. A larger number on the front does not automatically make a product more suitable.

Notice warnings and storage instructions

Warnings may identify groups who should avoid the product or seek advice first. Storage instructions protect product quality after purchase.

Be cautious with claims

Guaranteed outcomes, disease-treatment claims and dramatic before-and-after promises are warning signs. Responsible supplement information should acknowledge that individual experiences vary.

When something is unclear

Do not guess. Contact the brand with a clear photo or question, and consult a qualified professional where the answer affects your health or medication.
